The Independent is a tabloid format newspaper first published in 1986 by Alexander Lebedev. The newspaper also known as the Indy and it also has a Sunday edition called the Independent on Sunday also has a nickname called the Sindy. The newspaper originally was printed as broadsheet format but since 2003 is has been published in a tabloid format. The daily edition of the paper was named National Newspaper of the Year in 2004 by British Press Award.
